This week you will fill in your practice log on the row labeled "Week 2." Find the square on Week 2 that has the date you are practicing on and write the number of minutes that you practice in that square. Be sure to have your practice log signed by your parent/guardian after practicing for at least 30 minutes this week. Practicing more than 30 minutes is even better! The more you practice, the more fun you will have in music class!
For this week's homework you will need the book: Essential Elements for Band - Book 1 (Yellow Book) You can buy it at the Magic Flute Music Store or order it online from the publisher (Hal Leonard) or from Amazon. Be certain to get the correct book for your instrument; trumpet or trombone.
You may want to warm-up with a review from week 1...
1. Continue the same same buzzing and long tones from week 1. Buzz on your mouthpiece a soft, steady, long tone and Buzz on your mouthpiece low and high like a siren. Then put your mouthpiece into your instrument and...Play a nice, beautiful, steady long tone through your instrument. (See if you can play 20 seconds with one breath.) Do NOT attempt to do this more than 3 times in one day or you may get dizzy!!!! With your mouthpiece in your instrument, try to use your lips to change between higher notes and lower notes (Without changing your fingers on the valves or slide.) If you are having trouble, try thinking of saying "AHHHHH" on the lower notes and "EEEEE" on the higher notes. Also remember that your lips will have to be slightly looser on the low notes and will have to be slightly tighter or stronger on the higher notes.
NEW ASSIGNMENT FOR WEEK 2 (This Week!) Try to play some of the notes in your book (Essential Elements for Band) on page 4 and page 5. (Exercise #9 in the book may be the easiest for you. It is OK if you do not play them in order.) Don't worry if you can't figure out how to play all of the notes, just keep trying. I will help you more during class next week!
USE A PRACTICE VIDEO THAT I MADE FOR YOU!!! I have recorded a video to help you practice this week! Watch the video and pause after each of my examples so that you can try playing the notes with the correct pitch and rhythm.
Be sure to watch the correct video for your instrument.

Please write down how many minutes you practice each date on the practice log and remember to have your parents sign their initials in the box where it says "parent initials."
(If you lost your practice log, scroll down to week #1 and print one from that post.)
Happy practicing! -Mr. Santucci
