Hello from the White Hill Orchestra! The advanced orchestra played a terrific concert at Sonoma Valley High School in March. We got excellent feedback and enjoyed a great event. Here's the video from our concert. Congratulations to both White Hill orchestras on their fantastic achievements at the Music in the Parks Festival on Saturday May 6th. After performing two pieces for the adjudicators at Pittsburg High School, the students spent the afternoon at 6 Flags Discovery Kingdom. Both orchestras were rated "Superior", and the 6th Grade Orchestra won the overall high score trophy for their age division. Here they are with their trophies!
Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade Advanced Orchestra, which participated in the California Music Educators' Association Large Ensemble Festival in El Cerrito on April 1st. The orchestra played beautifully and was awarded Superior ratings by all three adjudicators! I am so proud of all the students!
Congratulations to Aidan Kim (violin), Chenoa Grillet-Isaacs, Claire Love and Matt Wagner (viola), Camille Davis (cello) and Chance Addis (bass), who participated in Marin Music Educators' Association Honor Orchestra over the weekend. The students met for two rehearsals before giving a performance at Ross School, alongside string students from other Marin County schools, under the direction of Patty Drury. Well done to everyone involved - your performance was great!
Come and join us on Wednesday 25th January at White Hill Middle School (101 Glen Drive, Fairfax) for our winter Orchestra concert! It will feature performances from the 5th Grade Violin and Cello students, 6th Grade String Ensemble, 7th & 8th Grade Advanced Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. The concert starts at 7pm and admission is free. All are welcome!
Performers should arrive at 6:30 wearing their orchestra t-shirt, black pants, and black shoes. I am so pleased to announce that White Hill's Advanced Orchestra has been invited to participate in a performance masterclass led by reknowned violinist Midori, during her residence with the Marin Symphony Orchestra! The students will be one of the middle school ensembles performing in the Veterans' Memorial Auditorium in San Rafael on Saturday 28th January, 10:30-12:30, and will receive coaching from Midori. The event is free and open to all! We are honored to be able to take part in this wonderful event!
Congratulations to eighth graders Elliott Cho (violin) and Peter Cho (cello), who have been selected to take part in the California Music Educators' Association Bay Area Honor Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Loretta McNulty, in January 2017! Well done!
We loved the photos of the Cleveland Orchestra's Halloween Spooktacular - here are some of White Hill strings' awesome costumes!
On Thursday, White Hill's 7th and 8th Grade Advanced Orchestra visited Davies Symphony Hall for an open rehearsal of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. The orchestra rehearsed Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 (Rudolf Buchbinder was the soloist) and Brahms' Symphony No. 2. The students appreciated the more relaxed, less formal setting than an evening performance, and noticed a lot about professional rehearsal techniques and orchestra etiquette. The students were the youngest audience members there, but behaved with maturity and politeness, and I was so proud of them during the day! Thanks to the parent chaperones who made the trip possible.
